custom designs (part 2) - custom birthday set with candle 💗🎂

following on from the custom vintage green theme set post, the customer requested to have a heart shaped candle to put onto the phone case as the set was to celebrate their birthday!

the first step to creating the candle was to look at candles! From looking at the texture of candles, I could tell that they looked a bit translucent and waxy rather than opaque and the shape was really uniform and smooth in texture. So the next step was to decide on what material to use to re-create this texture and colour.

At first, I thought maybe using resin to cast in a mould which would re-create this uniform texture but resin would be transparent and not opaque enough! Maybe this could be a another experiment in the future by adding more opacity to the resin.

Finally, I thought using a transparent clay would be best as it would look waxy and translucent however the shape wouldn't be as uniform and smooth. So, I tried my best to smooth out the front and sides of the heart to make it look like it came from a mould!

the final product was sent to the customer and I am so glad that they liked it and it made their birthday special! ✨💗
